My Home

Daily writing prompt
What do you love about where you live?

While pondering this question, I can’t help but wonder if they meant my actual home or the state or town I live in. I decided to tell you how much I love California. First and foremost the beaches. I could never live in a place where there was no water nearby. I’m a short drive to the coast, but if I want to go to the mountains, I could do that too. A few hours and I can off road it in the desert. I wouldn’t want to, but at least I have the option. I could travel north and see the mighty sequoias. When I was little we would camp up in the redwoods. I’d like to do that again. Not actually camp, maybe glamp.

I love being in a city where I can watch movies at midnight if I feel like it and that the theaters don’t close at 7pm. I have to live in a state where there’s a Disneyland and since Florida is the land of alligators and crazies, I’m fine just where I am. I need culture and art, not farms and football. I need the security of being able to touch my neighbor’s house from mine. I know this isn’t ideal for everyone, but I need the concrete giants watching over me and the sounds of sirens outside. Sometimes I need peace and quiet. That’s when I go on vacation.

I love that I don’t have to worry about my reproductive freedoms and live in a state where women continue to have rights and aren’t looked down upon. I’m talking to you “trad husbands” and religious zealots.

No shade to anyone who lives on a farm or loves football. We need you too, it just isn’t for me.

I love my home.
